Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, as it is popularly known, is a very important festival for various reasons. It was on this day that Lord Rama gained victory over the wicked Ravana. This day is also known as ‘Dussehra’ for this reason. Dussehra is derived from two Sanskrit words – dasha (ten) and hara (defeat).
